Guess who's back? back again.............no not shady!..........Me!

I thought I'd give you this lil update since i've been neglecting you all.

I seen this video online and i just HAD to post it, this 3 year old tears up mirrors edge and portal.
Now mirrors edge isn't too hard, it's just grasping the concept but portal!.....i mean, have you ever played portal ? It's bloody hard!

I gave up on portal not many levels after where the kid is in the video because i thought it was too hard!

I think i need to re-attend school, no scratch that, NURSERY SCHOOL! since they are obviously teaching these kids something i'm missing out on!

Google PAC Man 30th Anniversary

I don't know how long this is going to last but for today at least (Saturday 22nd May) the Google Logo on Google.co.uk is a playable game of Pac Man.

It's to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pac Man.

I just had a go and embarrassingly realised i don't know how to play Pac Man lol, damn these games that came out before i was born!

DSLR Space Shuttle Time Lapse

Have you ever wondered how they get the space shuttle up vertically?. I hadn't ever gave it much thought but this video really opened my eyes. They use one bad-ass crane to pick it up!

All the people in the video look like little ants, so that goes to show how big the Shuttle really is, also how bad-ass this crane must be!

Also more importantly how big is that warehouse!!!!!, this thing is a must watch!.

I've only just now began to understand what a remarkable feat space travel is (i'm not talking about alleged moon landings here). I'm talking about the feat of putting that massive vehicle up into space, it's amazing. and that crane is bad-ass!

iPad + Velcro = Me Wanting One Again

When the iPad first came about i wanted one; i then came to the stark realisation that i didn't need one, at all, full stop.

Well that was almost the best part of six months ago, and i'm now feeling (once again) that this thing COULD fit in my life..........

After watching the Velcro video above, its starting to make sense again.....
I mean, It's not an entirely market-less product as after-all America gobbled up 500,000 of them pushing back the international release of device, so the figures speak for themselves.

I just feel like it could do that little bit more, which is why i'll be waiting for Gen 2.

Android Phones And Easter Eggs

Every now and then Google hides an Easter egg (an easter egg is like a hidden joke) in its search engine.

This time its Android related, so to see it for yourself go to Google and type "Meet Android" into the search bar and click "I'm feeling Lucky". (By the way this only works in the UK.)

I could screen-shot it for you to show you what happens, but i think you should stop being lazy and do as you're told!.

Also (staying with a Google and Android related topic) the people over at Androidtapp.com have created a nice graphic for you to keep up-to date with which version of Android different phones are running.

The graphic shows all Android releases from Cupcake (1.5) to Donut (1.6) and Éclair (2.1); Although it misses off the fresh off the press Froyo (2.2) version of Android as no phones are running that at this point in time.

I've edited the graphic as the Samsung Moment is now capable of Android 2.1.

Also if you're wondering the HTC Incredible is the best of the lot, although it's yet to be released in the UK and it might not be release if they don't do a GSM version.

Also the HTC EVO isn't shown which again isn't a GSM device.

Play Portal For Free

For some reason Steam (the online game playing thingy) is giving away Portal for free.

Steam is a way for you to play PC games, but you download them rather than buy the disk.

Personally i don't care how i get to play the game as long as it's FREE.

You have to sign up to Steam and then download it (1.5MB). The long part is downloading Portal which is a 5GB download. But it is free and it DOES work, as i've been playing it; Well i was until i got abit stuck on level 11. I'm sure Youtube will help me complete the game!

Oh yeah the catch (you knew there was one didn't you) is that its only free until the 24th May.

PSP2 Could Be Coming

Since Sony's decline in PSP sales after the release of the PSPGo, rumours have been circulating that they may introduce a PSP2.

Now you know me, i don't like rumours but Sony may announce the device next month at the E3 show in L.A to counter the announcement of the Nintendo 3DS.

World Largest Blackberry Is In Paris

I always thought the trend with technology is to make things smaller, not 1000 x larger?.........

Anyway, despite my lack of ability to recognise technology trends, Blackberry will be displaying the worlds largest Blackberry on the Beaubourg Esplanade in the heart of Paris.

The smartphone will be connected to Facebook (i'm sensing this is a bad idea) and broadcast messages and photo's via the creator app on the facebook fan page for Blackberry France.

To broadcast your message, follow these simple steps:

Visit www.facebook.com/BLACKBERRYFR and select the “Love concours” tab to load the message creator application.
Select a wallpaper, and use the text tool to craft a message that tells everyone what you love to do. You can also select an image from your Facebook albums to accompany your message.
Select the time and date you want your message to be broadcast, so you can tell your friends to watch for it!

That would make her perfect!.....................Maybe i should hack her computer and put " Will you marry me" on her desktop, because if it's true then she's a 11/10!!!

iPhone 4G Teardown

Apple have done an appalling job of keeping their secrets as of late. LOL.

Vietnamese website taoviet.vn have got hold of another iPhone 4G prototype different to the one found in march.

This one doesn't have the 2 screws the other one had at the bottom of the device, and they have confirmed it has the Apple A4 1GHz processor found in the iPad and developed by Intrinsity. (who Apple have recently bought by the way).

The device won't boot to an iPhone OS, instead it just runs through some bonfire sequence.

Maybe the bonfire is representative of the rage Steve Jobs must be in right now?.

Motorola Droid Rubiks Solver

Just when you thought the Motorola Droid couldn't make any more headlines someone makes an Android programme to solve a Rubiks cube.

The device made out of Lego and an overclocked Droid (to 550MHz) solves the Rubiks cube in 24 seconds!, which is a tad bit quicker than my record of about 23 years. (i.e. i've never solved a Rubiks cube).

If you've seen Iron Man 2 you will have seen some of Tony Starks awesome gadgets.

And since this is a gadget blog it's only right i show you some of them, and also destroy your sense of imagination by showing you they're not real! lol.

His PDA

Tony's PDA was able to commandeer the screens at the senate halls in the movie. Now that may not be possible (read: almost certainly not) but a see-through PDA device could exist in the near future.

OLED screens are starting to become more common in mobile devices, and making devices see through is nothing new, Samsung unveiled the worlds first see-through laptop screen (Youtube link) and LG have shown off the worlds first see through mobile phone, the GD900.

So a see-through PDA doesn't seem too far fetched.

The Holographic Interface

Now as far as i know there's nothing out there like this (available to consumers at least). So this is strictly science fiction.

How It Was Done

This video shows how the different visual effects were achieved and ultimately shows what's real and what's not. And in case you're wondering none of its real ha ha!.

Iron Man's suit isn't as science fictional as you might think. Most of its components exist right now in research and development labs. What would it cost Tony Stark today to put them together and become superhuman?

Helmet-mounted display
Tony controls his Iron Man suit via a sophisticated helmet-mounted display that is voice-activated. It could easily be compared to helmet-mounted displays currently under development for fighter jets like the F-35. Fighter pilots use these displays to guide their aircraft the way Tony guides his suit. Last year, the companies developing F-35 HMDs announced they would be creating these helmets with a development budget of $54.1 million.

Development cost for a typical HMD for a fighter jet: $54.1 million

Exoskeleton
Tony's suit is essentially an exoskeleton that gives Iron Man his super strength and maneuverability. Several companies and labs, including those at Raytheon and UC Berkeley, are developing exoskeletons like Tony's that give the wearer additional strength. They are usually designed for soldiers carrying heavy packs, or for disabled people as a replacement for wheelchairs and canes. Possibly the closest to Tony's suit is Raytheon's XOS exoskeleton, which allows the person wearing it to lift 200 lbs. as if they were nothing.

Cost to develop one XOS exoskeleton: $10 million

Portable nuclear power source
Tony's nuke heart can be compared to the energy source in the new Martian rover Curiosity, a nuclear generator called a Multi-Mission Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator (MMRTG), which will power its large robotic body and lab for years with a small nuclear power source. While the MMRTG with its 10 pounds of plutonium dioxide is bigger than Tony's fist-sized heart, its components are similar enough that we'll make the comparison.

Cost of one MMRTG (according to NASA estimates [PDF]): $36 million

Jet packs
Constructed inside Tony's boots are jets that allow him to fly and hover. While jet packs don't work particularly well, we've seen a few recent successes. Yves Rossy, pictured above, has actually piloted his own jet pack across the English Channel. And there are a few companies selling strap-on jet packs similar to equipment Tony has in his suit. In fact, Jet Pack International will sell you a strap-on jet pack that could potentially be modified to fit inside Tony's boots.

Cost of two jet packs from JetPack (one for each boot): $400,000

Wearable computers
Tony's suit is operated by wearable computers that are wired into each body part and controlled from the HMD. Lucky for Tony, wearable computers are pretty cheap. Basically you just take an awesome computer and fit its components into cases that fit into your exoskeleton. Let's assume he wants a few computers, some awesome antennae so he can store shit in the cloud, a few ARM processors, really good hard drives. And let's have him run QNX because that's how Tony rolls. But other than that we're just talking about a really kickass set of secure computers with specialized cases. Sort of like the kinds of wearables that MIT students (like the one above) have been developing for years.

Estimated cost for wearable computers: $20,000

So, what's the final price tag? $100,420,000

To put that in perspective, the cost of the F-35 fighter plane is estimated at $95 to $113 million. So this suit might easily fit in today's military budgets.

Ferrari F10 Steering Wheel

F1 technology always amazes me, as they're always so far ahead.

Some people say a lot of aerodynamic and engineering achievements made on F1 cars filter through to road cars, hence why you see Ford Fiesta's with front splitters and Renault Clio's with rear diffusers from the factory.

Ferrari's performance Engineer Giuliano Salvi runs through the crazy amount of buttons and switches on the 2010 Ferrari F10 Formula One car.

That steering wheel is one addition they can leave on the race track though, as i'm sure if they put that on road cars there would be a hell of a lot of crashes.

I wouldn't crash though, as i always know what buttons to press ;-) (There i go lowering the tone again).

FAG: HD2 Edition

Yes folks it's another round of Fake Ass Gadgets, this time it's the HTC HD2 that's been faked.

As far as FAG's go this phone has relatively decent specs, it runs Windows Mobile 6.5.3, It has a 5MP auto-focus camera and has a WVGA screen.

And that's where the good points end, the bad points are; It's not a HD2!, so it doesn't have that 4.3" screen we all lust for, It comes with a stylus, (is the touch screen really that bad?) and it's also manufactured by a company called iHTC.

Come on now. iHTC?. really?. Thats the best they could come up with?.

Fortunately you probably won't get your hands on this device as it's only available in China.

Whenever i touch the internet 80% of the time it's on Google Chrome, the other 20% of the time is on Safari on my iPhone (which i'm going to sell).

So there we have it, scientific proof that Google Chrome is almost as fast as lightning. Take that Firefox!

Mad Camera Sync

The person who filmed this helicopter set his camera speed in sync with the rotation of the helicopters blades. The result is some mad looking helicopter which looks like it came from ~~hell~~ space.

The more i look at it the funnier it looks, and the more i think it would be awesome if i was flying it!

Apple has set the date for its World Wide Developers Conference. They have gone for June 7th, which is not much over a month away.

Anyone familiar with the event will know that it's when Apple tend to announce the next generation of iPhone.Its how they introduced both the 3G and the 3G[S].

Shell Helix: See-Through 370Z

To show off how well its oil lubricates your engine, Shell recreated a Nissan 370Z out of plastic.

They wanted to show in real time exactly the process the oil goes through in your engine, but didn't want to use CGI (because it's not real) and also didn't want to use X-rays.

The car doesn't actually drive, but looks kinda cool........................Until you lose it in Tesco's car park that is.

It kinda spoils the image when you know its not entirely cables, but nonetheless its still nice to look at.

App Review: Fruit Ninja

Since about three months ago i've started to take gaming on the iPhone a little more seriously, i've completed Angry Birds, beaten my dad on Let's Golf and failed miserably at Doodle Jump.

With my new found interest in iPhone gaming i decided to download Fruit Ninja after a casual recommendation on an internet forum.

I thought i may as well spend the £0.59 and download it, as with a name like Fruit Ninja it could only be full of WIN, as we all know ninja's are the epitome of cool, right?. Almost as cool as grizzly bears with laser guns!......Sweet!

The game is simple, fruit pops up on the screen and you slice through them with your finger. Simple huh?

Well its not quite as simple as that, as the longer you play the more fruit enters the screen, as well as bombs.

After my first go i realised you're not actually meant to slice the bombs and came to the stark realisation that i should perhaps reconsider my career decision to become a real life ninja.

After each round you get presented with a fruit fact from "Sensei", which you can arm yourself with for the next pub quiz or next time you're chatting up the neighbourhood bicycle. " Hey baby, did you know unripe pinapples are toxic?......You didn't?...........Cool, your place or mine"

As far as i can see the game is fairly linear, there doesn't appear to be any levels or stages, its literally slice until you lose your 3 lives or you slash a bomb.

For £0.59 though you can't complain and it IS addictive. Have a go yourself and see if you can beat my score of 145. (i have no idea if that's good or not lol)

New GPS Speed Camera's

A new generation of speed cameras which use satellites to track average speeds over several MILES are being secretly trialled in England.
The high-tech devices – called SpeedSpike – are an enhanced version of the spy cameras which enforce London’s congestion charge.
They combine number plate recognition technology with global positioning satellite (GPS), enabling average speed to be measured over long distances.

Now i don't condone speeding, but i think this is unnecessary as the speed reducing measures available today are enough to deter people from speeding. Why would this stop anyone from speeding any more than a speed bump would?

How long until they put one of these on every street corner and time how long it takes you to complete your entire journey before calculating whether you deserve a fine or not?

Using motorists as cash cows isn't going to help us out of the recession!

Apple Wants Their iPhone Back

If there was any doubt in your mind as to the authenticity of the iPhone acquired by Gizmodo, this is sure to change your mind, Apple have formerly and publicly requested it back!

The phone was apparently found by an unknown person in a bar in Redwood City on March 18th, it was left there by Apple software engineer Gray Powell.

Powell was working on the iPhone baseband which enables the phone to make calls. The phone must be very close to the final product if they were field testing. Unfortunately, he lost it.

The person ~~who shall forever remain nameless~~ who found it, actually tried to give it back to Apple, but after a few attempts to contact the right people he was dismissed, given a ticket number and promised a call back. Surprisingly Apple didn't call him back.

The person who found it then sent a few pictures to online technology blog Engadget who published said pictures.
The next part is a rumour but would make sense, Gizmodo then got wind of the prototype device and apparently paid $10,000 for hands on time with it. This would also line up with their claims of them apparently having it for an entire week before blogging about it.

Part of Gizmodo's hesitation to blog about the device would have been Apples legal department, as under California law (where the phone was found) it states the folowing:

"If an item is lost, the owner has three years to reclaim or title passes to the owner of the premises where the property was found. The person who found it had the duty to report it." Which, actually, the guy who found it tried to do, but he was pretty much ignored by Apple.

Because of this the finder ~~who shall forever remain nameless~~ won't be subject to Apple's legal team, and Gizmodo can return it unscathed.

Everyones happy, Apple gets its product back, we know whats coming and nobody gets their ass sued, although the future of Grays position at Apple may be in question.

iPhone 4G Leaked

The last few days have been abit of a roller-coaster on technology blogs. (Including this one if you were quick enough).

It started off when Engadget were tipped off and sent pictures of an iPhone 4G prototype which was apparently found in a bar in San Jose, CA.
Now i blogged about the phone which was found, but then MACRumors called fake on the phone Engadget found.

At the time the evidence against the fake was quite high, so high that i decided to pull my post from this blog. It had only been up around 2 hours and Google hadn't yet trawled my site and cached the content.

Engadget then posted again saying the information they received was credible and that they thought it WAS the actual device. At this point i regretted puling my post on the leak and i couldn't restore the post, plus google hadn't cached my content so i would have to write it all over again.......

Since all that happened Gizmodo some how got hold of the device HANDS ON!

The device will not boot but the person who found it said it was running OS 4.0 before it was remotely shutdown and wiped by Apple.

OS 4.0 cannot be restored onto the device as the firmware is device specific, and since this device isn't out yet...........

The obvious new features of the phone are:

Front-facing video chat camera

Improved rear camera (assumed as it has a bigger lense than the 3GS)
Camera flash
Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)
Improved display (based on the fact that the "connect to iTunes" prompt is in a higher resolution, despite the physical screen size being smaller)
What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack
Split buttons for volume
Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic

The device may have other new features software wise, but since it won't boot we do not know.

The phone is unbelievably thin, I'm actually surprised its thinner than the previous iPhones.

Other new features of the phone are:

The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through.
An aluminum border going completely around the outside
Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)
Everything is more squared off
3 grams heavier
16% Larger battery
Internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery

I can only imagine how Apple are feeling at this point, Steve must be livid.

Vivos are a ~~scaremongering~~ company who are building 20 (yes twenty!) underground bunkers across the USA so people can hide from Tsunami's, Nuclear Bomb's, 2012 annihilation, comets and whatever else alleged to be out there threatening to destroy man kind.

Each bunker can hold upto 200 people for a year, and they have already had 1000 applications.

The shelter doesn't come cheap though as a space in the bunker will cost in the region of $50,000.

The bunker will house it's own Hospital, and will provide its own security, and from what i can see in the video - jail cells. Now call me ruthless but surely if someone misbehaves you just threaten to throw them outside with the nuclear radiation. "I'm sorry Ted, but you stole the last weetabix, you're gonna have to leave" "ARRRRRRRGHHHHH"

People would soon start behaving lol.

iPad International Release Delayed

The iPad was stated for an April release this side of the water, but due to US demand being greater than Apple had anticipated it has been pushed back into May.

Rogers a Canadian telecommunications provider have said they will be offering the 3G iPad towards the end of May.

So you'll have to wait to get your grubby mits on one :(

Ong Bak 3 Trailer

Some of you may know of the Ong Bak film series, I've only seen Ong Bak 1 myself but it was the wickedest display of martial arts I've ever seen recorded on film.

I haven't seen Ong Bak 2, and by not seeing it I'm obviously missing something, as Ong Bak 1 was relatively realistic. But from what i can make out from the trailer for Ong Bak 3 is he comes back from the dead as some sick zombie and starts biting people's faces off.
That doesn't seem to be sticking to the theme of the films to me (although like i said i haven't seen number 2 so maybe some mad s**t went down).

Despite the resurrection of mummy's or whatever the hell happens in this, there is still some awesome martial arts and he is swinging off of an Elephants tusk kicking people in the face at one point! Tell me that's not the best thing ever!

Opera Mini iPhone Browser Approved

Remember last month i blogged about the Opera Mini iPhone Browser submitted to Apple by Opera for their approval. And Opera were overly pessimistic about it, so they put up a timer on their website to count how long it would take Apple to approve or deny the app. Well ladies and gentleman the clock stopped at 20 days 8hours 31 minutes and 0 seconds.

The app is here, and its approved!................and the best part is. It's free.

So that means i'll have to take back what i said, and review the app.

"Well, unless it gets approved and is FREE then i won't be paying it any attention whatsoever, i'm happy with Chrome on my PC's so i won't be switching to Opera ~~ever~~ any time soon"

First of all let me state the app is VERY fast, and i don't just mean over WiFi, it definitely renders The Newologist quicker than Safari does over WiFi on 3G!.

One thing i did notice was the absense of Youtube though, which is odd. and its not just my site either. Hmmmmmmmmm.

The speed does seem to take away from the accuracy of the browsing experience, although the page renders fast it seems to miss random images, and whilst 'zoomed out' the text on any site is unreadable, and i don't mean its small, i mean its unreadable in its entirety, see the image below to see what i mean. Zooming in is just a simple double tap on the text you wish to zoom in on.

The quick dial system works similar to how it does on Chrome, Safari and Opera on your desktop. Although from what i found it doesn't populate itself with your most visited sites, so you would have to input your favourite sites manually, which is kinda counter-productive in my opinion.

The reason the app appears to be so fast (over a cellular connection at least) is because all data is rendered on Opera's servers then sent to your device. So really you are not actually looking at the actual html rendering of the site, but more of an image file which maintains all the links.

So with that in mind i'm sure anything you do is seen by them, now i'm not implying you may want to get upto anything dodgy on the net, but i'm thinking more along the lines of privacy and your bank details.
I quite regularly check my bank account online on the iPhone, but i don't trust Opera enough to do that since they see the data first.

Overall though it is a relatively good app and a definite alternative to Safari when you don't have a solid WiFi or 3G connection. Other than that though i'd stick to using Safari as you cannot fault its fluidity and consistency whilst browsing the web.

Download it and have a go for yourself, don't just take my word for it. But i bet you'll echo the same comments as me.

Hopefully an update to enable the Youtube functionality and resolve the issue with accuracy will be released soon.

Third Person Driving

Ever wondered how hard it would be to drive a car in third person view?, like in video games, but it real life.

I haven't, as i only drive in first person view 'cos i'm hardcore like that!. But for those of you with inquisitive minds your thoughts may be put to rest.

The highly scientific test was kept as real world as possible, so they included a blow up doll to act as a prostitute and some badass suit wearing Yakuza Ninja's, cos you know, these are every day occurrences.

Microsoft Kin One and Kin two Announced: 'Kin Great!

Since Microsofts acquisition of Danger everything's been quiet on the sidekick front, that is until today.

The phones revealed by Microsoft today aren't called Sidekicks and they won't be branded as such, but it's been common knowledge that Microsoft/Danger has been working on something called 'Project Pink' since last year, and this is what they were working on.

First of all let me stress that the phones that MS have produced are not smartphones. MS are trying to define a new niche in the phone market, they are classed as "Hyper Connected Social Networking" phones.

You can't install app's, it won't run programs and it is permanently connected to the cloud. They aren't jaw dropping specs either but once you understand what they phones are about you'll realise they don't need to be.

Both phones are aimed at teenagers and social-holics as they are plugged into Facebook,Twitter and MySpace all the time, pulling all of your friends and feeds into a single stream.

First up we have the Kin One.

The Kin One has a small a 320x240 screen, 5 megapixel camera, VGA video recording, 4GB of non-expandable storage and less RAM than the Kin Two.

Next we have the Kin Two

The Kin Two is the better of the two phones as it has a 480x320 screen, 8 megapixel camera, 720p video recording and 8GB of non-expandable storage. Both phones also run Nvidia's Tegra chip.

The phones are based on Windows Phone 7 architecture and the browser is a version of Internet Explorer, a souped version of the one on the Zune HD.
It's got a standard email app, Bing Maps and Bing Search built in.

It integrates all of your contacts from Facebook, MySpace and Windows Live. There's no Facebook or MySpace app though as everything is integrated.

Both of these phones obviously aren't aimed at me, as i think they're 'Kin average (i've been dying to say that lol) at best, but i think this could be an alternative for teens who can't afford a Blackberry or iPhone. Although for some reason you can't upload photo's to Twitter and there is no Youtube, at all, full stop.

FAG: Nexus One Edition

You know you have made a good product when people feel the need to copy it. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

With that idiom in mind i bring you to you the latest Fake Ass Gadget to come to my attention.

This is a Google Nexus One rip off, and although theres not alot of info to go on (as with any terrible chinese originating rip off) we can see it is running an imitation iPhone-esque operating system, a sure sign of a Fake Ass Gadget.

According to the source it has a 3.2 Inch touch screen and a trackball rather than the optical trackpad found on the actual Nexus One. It also has an accelerometer and a 2MP Camera.

The real Nexus One will be available in the UK by Vodafone. Their site lists it as coming soon but i'm pretty sure its meant to drop this month.

With all this talk of multitasking on mobile devices being at the forefront of everyone's minds, and Apple finally giving in to everyone's demands to allow multitasking on iPhone OS 4.0, it's not a surprise other handsets are out to show what they can do.

In this instance we have a Samsung i8910 Omnia HD out to show it's not out for the count and can still battle with the rest of them

The video has no sound, well the sound is there just no-one is talking, so you'll have to watch in silence lol.

Even though that is a pretty impressive feat for a mobile device, it does beg the question, why?.

Colorware Apple iPad

The iPad is now available in any garish colour combination you can come up with, and i've done it in the Newologist colours. But for an extra $400 i don't think i'll be buying it.

iPad: You're Doing It Wrong

With the release of the iPad comes a wave of recommendations on how you should hold the device.
Apple actually sell a kind of folder which tilts the iPad at around 45 degrees which i would say is a good way to use it.

The other options are flat on your knee's or a table, which would then make it awkward to use the virtual keyboard. The final option is to use it stood up portrait style with the Apple external keyboard, but 1.) thats costly, and 2.) it's stupid as you may as well use a desktop or a laptop.

You see the dilemna here?

I think we can all collectively agree though, that the guy in the picture is doing it WRONG, and is ~~definitely~~ probably a silly fanboy.

Well, well, well, I initially didn't mention the Apple event which finished about 3 minutes ago (at the time of writing) as i didn't think there would be any massive announcements, well, not that the announcements wouldn't be massive but i wasn't bothered about them.
You know me by now, i don't like to feed into rumours, so when i heard that Apple would be announcing iPhone OS 4.0 and it may feature multitasking and something called "iAd" (i didn't know what it was at the time) my only response was something along the lines of "Meh, so what".

Oh what an understatement i made. Steve has just announced so many features it was hard to keep up with what was going on. I'll try and break it down for you and keep it as non-boring and as geek-less as possible.

Apple have said they are releasing 100 (yes, one double zero) new user features, and of those 100 features 7 of them are what they referred to as tent-pole features.

The seven tent-pole features are multitasking, folders, enhanced mail, iBooks, enterprise, Game Kit, and iAd.

I'll go through each one and breakdown exactly what they are, and how they will impact your device.

Multitasking was the word on everyone's lips before this event and it's finally here. All you Android owners will have to find something else to hate on as we have it now, and it looks awesome.

Multitasking will work by using background processing and background audio, meaning you can listen to an app (the app they used to demonstrate this was Pandora) and you can come out of that app and go into another one. There is also a slight change to the home screen allowing you to see all the app's currently running in the background, by double tapping the home button. It displays the app's four at a time and allows you to scroll through the remaining open apps.

This allows seamless switching between apps as shown above.

Push notifications have also been revamped meaning you are never truly logged out of an app (unless of course you explicitly log out).

Another notable feature is VOIP, to demonstrate this Skype was the example used by Apple. In skype you can be in one app, and you will get a notification that you have a call, the phone will freeze the app you are in (it may be a game) and allow you to take the call.

That may not sound special but on the current iPhone OS you have to be in the skype app to be classed as 'online' and therefore receive calls. Once the call is over it will take you back to your previous app in exactly the same state as you left it.

Another new feature is Local Notifications, they’re just like push notifications, but you don’t need a server. It’s done right on the phone. ( i wasn't aware all apps had to give notifications via Apple's servers anyway)

Background location services are also present now, meaning app's such as "Loopt" can run in the background constantly tracking your location and sending it to your peers. Now this may sound like some mad big brother 1984 'ish but Apple does have your privacy under control. Whenever an app is tracking your location it displays a new arrow symbol at the top of the screen.

The next Tent-pole feature (yes all those previous features came under one tent-pole) is Folders.

Now this is something that no-one had thought of, folders is a collective group of icons.
All you have to do is hold the app until it begins to wiggle, then drag the app's on top of each other. This will then create a folder containing the apps you selected, and if they're apps of the same type it will automatically name them. (although you can rename them later).

You can drag the new folder onto the taskbar too, allowing you to have plenty of app's at your disposal.

The next tent-pole was the enhancement of the mail app. Now i would class the enhancements made within the mail app under the "Enterprise" tent-pole, but that's just me.

Enhanced features include unified mailboxes, that means if you have more than one e-mail address set up to your phone then all messages fall into ONE single mailbox. I quite like this feature as i have three mailboxes set up on my phone.
Another feature is threaded messages, which i assume track conversations within e-mails. Similar to what Microsoft have done on Outlook 2010.

The next tent-pole which even Steve himself wasn't really excited about was iBookstore.

Now this is pretty much exactly how it appeared on the iPad. But smaller, h'obviously.

Apparently everyone will get a free Winnie The Pooh book.

The main stand out feature of this, to be frank, boring addition, is wireless syncing, meaning if you read a book on your touch, it will remember what page you are on when you open the book on your iPhone or iPad. Now thats cool!.

Next up were features aimed at enterprise users, it looks like Apple has gone back on its statement saying iPhone apps aren't aimed at businesses.

OS4.0 will bring better data protection, It will encrypt emails and attachments. There will be APIs (Application Programming Interface) available so developers can encrypt stuff inside their own apps. Also, Mobile Device management.

It will also provide users with multiple Exchange accounts and Exchange Server 2010 support. And SSL VPN support from Juniper and Cisco.

Game Center was the 6th of the 7 tent poles.

Game Center will allow users to enter local leader boards with their high scores and will also reward users with achievements.

In my honest opinion, i don't care about Game Center lol.

The Last and final tent-pole was the introduction of iAd.

iAd is Apples revamp of the way adverts appear on your iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad.
You may be wondering "who the hell cares" as i know i was, but understand this thing is pretty damn awesome

Apple showed a demonstration using Toy Story 3 as an example advert (at which point Steve declares Disney have done a very good job with the movie, as he has seen it!!!) and showed how adverts will act as app's within apps. Is your mind fried yet?

When you click on the add it will go full screen leaving your app running in the background, it will allow you to exit the app with the 'X' at the top left.
Depending on the advert you will be presented with different features. In the Toy Story 3 advert you could buy the Toy Story 3 game (yes from within the advert) you could view sound bites from separate characters and you could also bring up a map showing you the closest cinema to your location showing the film. Now tell me that's not awesome.

To quote what Steve himself said...

"iAd is inside the OS, so Apple can do interactive/video content without you leaving the actual app.

Because iAd is in the iPhone OS itself, we have figured out how to do interactive and video content without ever taking you out of the app"

Now i know all this is a hell of alot to take in, and this is all stuff that you will be able to do on the existing iPhone (bar the iPhone 2G). So just imagine what Apple are cooking up for the release of the 4th Generation iPhone!

Not all features will be available on the iPhone 3G and the iPod Touch 2nd Gen. As understandably the multitasking would kill them.

iPhone OS 4.0 will be available for the iPad this 'fall'

And if you're a developer the good news is the OS is available NOW.

Lego Veyron Is Awesome³

Lego is one of those things which will always be cool, and this is proof.

The Lego Veyron made by Sheepo actually works!, and by actually works i don't mean you can hop into it and impress your mates when you roll up outside the club, i mean it functions.

It has a fully automated retractable roof, a fully automated spoiler (like on the real car) and it has a fully working sequential 7 speed + reverse gearbox (may i remind you this thing is made of freaking LEGO!......Hello!)

I've never seen anything like this, and its definitely the wickedest ting i've seen this week, even better than that present you bought your gf for x-mas.

Other notable features include working brakes, steering and bonnet.

Normally when you're in your mid 30's (that's a guestimation, no idea on his actual age) playing with Lego is probably frowned upon, but Sheepo has showed us he pwns at Lego!

Seriously. Robots should not look this real, they should all look like Johnny 5 and be all metallic in appearance.

The robot is made by Hiroshi Ishiguro, and will be going on sale for around $100,000 and it looks too real for its own good. I actually lost track of which one was the robot in the video.

And as with any major product launch, ifixit have got hold of one to tear it apart (well the FFC gave them pics of one they tore apart, but............meh), check the pics out.... Not much to see, but it saves you tearing yours apart out of curiosity.

The JooJoo Tablet Has Landed

I haven't mentioned the JooJoo tablet before on my blog as it's had abit of a rocky road to production.

Alot of people didn't actually think it would arrive, as it's been a road filled with shipping delays, dodgy refunds and law suits for the misappropriation of business ideas to name a few.

But the good news is ,its here. (A day before the iPad no less).

I suppose since this is the first time i've mentioned the device i should give you a run down of the specs.

Its a browser based device with Linux underpinnings, It features the usual specs you expect of a device of this calibre. Wireless b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, an Atom 1.6 GHz processor, accelerometer, ambient light sensor and 4GB of internal storage.

It has a 1366x768 fingerprint resistant multi touch capable display, with 1080P video playback, a front facing camera and the trick up its sleeve is Flash and Java support.

This device is thoroughly awesome from the ground up, the only thing missing is probably Wireless N support and in my opinion it could do with more internal storage.
It's a real alternative to the Apple iPad, and i don't think its a coincidence it's arrived this weekend either.

Even Apple fanboys can't deny this thing matches and is in some ways better than the iPad on paper! (only A-GPS, 3G and the App store gives the iPad the legs in this show down)

April Foolishness

Plenty of websites have been partaking in what i'd like to call April Foolishness.

I must admit i actually fell for the first one, but because i wasn't interested i dismissed the idea and left it at that lol.

First we have the Pad dock from iwantoneofthose.com, which converts your iPhone to something iPad sized, i did wonder how the touch screen would work but didn't think anything of it lol.

Next up we have some badge swapping tomfoolery from BMW, they say you can swap the badge to pledge your support for your favourite party in this coming election.

Of course every year Google.co.uk partake in some April Foolishness, this year offering an Animal sound converter. I downloaded it and tried it on my neighbours cat and it said "The Newologist rocks!".............ok it didn't but imagine if it DID!.

GMTV have a piece on their website about a person who was turned down from becoming a Giraffe keeper as they were not 6Ft 2" tall.

And finally, youtube have apparently enabled a "Text only" mode to save on bandwidth.........*roll's eyes*

Viewing this image has made me realise how awesome Google Chrome is, i mean, what's not awesome about fireworks!

I like how Internet Explorer is a dead horse, as that's essentially what Microsoft are offering. (although they did kindly e-mail me and offer me an Internet Explorer 9 trial. I may take them up on their offer before Steve Ballmer reads this and takes away my access.)

Safari is a bike, although if this was my graphic it would be a dog turd, and that's all i have to say on the matter.

The History Of Pirate Radio

This 15 minute documentary gives an interesting insight into the history of pirate radio in London.

It shows there's a lot more to it than some youths rigging up some budget equipment in a block of flats and banging out some 'tunes'. It's a world surrounded by smoke and mirrors such as the location of the studio, and real cloak and dagger secrecy, which could land some people in jail if caught by the DTi or Ofcom.

It's now become a domain where only the tech-savviest stay afloat, and although the antenna's can be seen and found, the studio is never in the same location......

The antenna's broadcast to the surrounding neighbourhood, and then have an infrared feed back to the studio (which could be anywhere within a 2 mile radius).

The studio then also broadcasts across the internet using different proxies around the world so their I.P can't easily be traced.

The studio also listen to the antenna's themselves as a sort of back feed, so they know if the authorities have found their antenna's, in which case its time to pack up your records and go.

The studio's are like fortresses with locks that only open from the inside (don't ask me how that works), mass sound proofing and backup radio transmitters.

Modern pirate radio is now changing though, as it now has the internet as an outlet which brings a worldwide audience.

Rinse FM has been very successful and has moved from being just another pirate radio station to having it's own events, to being it's own record label, own clothing and even has it's own iPhone app!

With the internet as an outlet there isn't really a need for these pirate radio stations to broadcast over FM, but it goes to show it has come along way from the 1950's and '60s,

Because old people lose control of their bodily functions when they........well get old, Simavita have introduced a revolutionary system which text's the resident nurse/carer when they've made an oopsie in their trousers.

Following clinical trials (i'd like to have seen that job posting, "professional pants pisser needed") the Australian company are rolling out the system around nursing homes.

Besides being funny, it will help nurses when they are on duty and stop them having to peer into an old persons nether regions to see if they have sprung a leak.

The system works by using a replaceable pad with electronic leads that detect moisture. Those leads are run to the SIM box, which sends a text message to the resident nurse, thus saving the nurse time.

This could provide endless hilarity if you could hook it up to someone unsuspectingly on a messy night out, group text's anyone?

Photoshop CS5 Makes Life Hella Easy

One of the new features is content awareness, which makes editing images look mad easy!.

The whole "is it a photoshop, is it not" debate just got a hell of a lot harder to judge.

Ever wondered which phone out there has the best touch screen available?

Well MOTO have put together a benchmark test consisting of a robotic hand to provide the results, as you know, a robot hand will be a tad more accurate than yours, shakey hand!

The test includes the Google Nexus One, Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Eris, Apple iPhone, Palm Pre and the Blackberry storm 2.

It brings to light some interesting results (Well it does if benchmarking is your kind of thing, it's hardly the typical topic of pub conversation.) and shows how little inaccuracies can greatly effect the usability of a device.

The Android Phone We've All Been Waiting For: HTC Evo

Ever since the release of the HTC HD2, we've all wished (well i have anyway) that HTC would release the HD2 and do away with the terribly dated Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system and port over Android.

Well now they have, well kinda, they went 1 up on us and ported over Android, and then some!

The HTC Evo is an absolute beast of a device (spec wise), this thing really is harder, better, faster, stronger than ANYTHING available right now.

Imagine a HD2 (With it's 1Ghz Processor, 512MB of RAM, 4.3 Inch capacitive touch screen, 480x800 screen resolution and all the usual titbits like Wireless, Bluetooth, GPS and an accelerometer.) then add on a 4G wireless card (YES I MEAN 4G AS IN 4G/LTE, the successor to 3G), Android 2.1, HDMI Out, 8MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front camera!

This phone is an absolute powerhouse!

It is also capable of acting as a hotspot for up to 8 devices (this is like a dream come true)...
If Sprint haven't covered 4G around your area yet then the device is still capable of running at 3G speeds, until they upgrade the network.

Sprint claims it's 4G service will cover 120 million people by the end of the year.

The HTC Evo which will be released on the Sprint network in America this summer.

O2 UK need to fix up and roll out 4G in the UK, because if another carrier rolls it out before they do i WILL move over.

I am most definitely jealous!, i didn't think 4G/LTE networks would appear until at least mid 2011 and this really throws a spanner in the works for not only Apple but Microsoft!

When my contract is up at the end of the year i will definitely be facing some very hard choices, whether to roll with the next reiteration of the iPhone, a WinMo 7 device or this (providing they bring out a GSM variant).

I hate the term "iPhone killer" but i don't know what else to dub this powerhouse of a mobile device.

Opera Mini iPhone Browser

Opera have just submitted their Opera Mini browser for the iPhone to Apple for approval.

Now i'm not a fan of Opera on the PC but watching the above video of Opera Mini on the iPhone i must say i am impressed. Especially when it managed to load 5(!) web pages in the space it took the iPhone to load one, all over Edge i must add, not over 3G or WiFi.

I would like to see the test performed side by side over 3G and WiFi as i bet that we wouldn't see a massive difference. Plus Opera's fancy server side web page rendering wouldn't be as prominent over 3G or WiFi.

The ONLY thing that's missing from this app which i think i would fiend for is the Apple patented pinch-to-zoom feature, it would feel like the removal of one of my limbs!

Opera have created a clock timing how long it takes Apple to approve or deny the browser. And with doing so comes a wave of speculation that they are just going through this whole rigmarole purely to gain publicity.

Well, unless it gets approved and is FREE then i won't be paying it any attention whatsoever, i'm happy with Chrome on my PC's so i won't be switching to Opera ~~ever~~ any time soon.

Nintendo Announces The 3DS

Nintendo have announced the 3DS, its the 3D equivalent of their DS and DSi LL hand-held consoles.

Now if you're like me, you will be thinking "So". Well let me tell you this, the hand-held will provide the 3D graphics without the need for ~~uber cool~~ silly 3D glasses.

The console will also provide backward compatibility with the previous generation of DS consoles.

Theres not a fat lot to say about this at the moment as Nintendo only announced it this morning, so remember where you read it ~~second as you read other blogs before this one~~ first.

The hand-held will be unveiled at the E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) show in June.

They've decided to give the statue a light sabre! (Ok so its not a light sabre its a "Beam Sabre", but they both look the same to me)

The only thing that could possibly top this would be if it was real! .............Or if it had a DOUBLE ENDED light sabre that would be like............woah!

Google Is Unstoppable: PT2

Remember how i said Google was unstoppable back in October? Of course you do, you check my blog weekly and remember everything i say.

Well, the above video is further proof of what i was saying, they are taking over everything!

My previous post on how they are unstoppable was abit brief and didn't really outline everything i wanted to say, otherwise it would have been a massive block of text which no-one would read, for which i don't blame you, because i wouldn't have read it either.

There's even rumours of a Google Set Top box, they want to own your freaking TV!! (i'll blog about the Google Set-top box when it becomes more official and isn't just rumours).

Charlie Miller Set To Reveal 20 Zero Day Holes In OSX

You know that MAC that you absolutely adore because it ~~looks pretty~~ is better than a PC, well it apparently has 20 flaws which have all been there since day 0!. (Day zero being the dawn of time!)

Charlie Miller, who i'm informed is a specialist in Apple security says he will reveal 20 (yes twenty) zero day flaws in MAC OSX, which could allow a hacker to remotely control your MAC, access files on your hard drive and potentially steal credit card details.

"Mac OS X is like living in a farmhouse in the country with no locks, and Windows is living in a house with bars on the windows in the bad part of town." In other words, Apple users are "safer" (due to the lack of work that goes into hacking them), "but less secure."

So there we have it, the flaws will be revealed between 24-26 March at the Cansecwest security conference.

Rubiks Cube for the Blind / Infinitely Patient

So, If after seeing the five cube conglomerate cube you still have a lust for all things cube shaped and annoying, you should try this.

It's aimed at blind people, although if you can read Braille you could have a go yourself...........or not.

Me, i wouldn't even bother, the only way to solve that Rubiks cube is with fire, and petrol. Lot's of petrol.

I did hear a rumour once that Chuck Norris can speak Braille, so maybe he could talk to cube into submission?.

Apple Banning Protective Screen Film From Stores

You know that protective screen film you bought from the Apple store?
Yeah, well as of May they're going to stop selling it.

It seems a weird move as the majority of iPhone owners buy a protective film for their screen.

Now i won't rant on about the in's and out's of protective screens and why i do not have one, and why i think the protective layer actually scratches easier than the screen itself would have, thus providing you with a false sense of "OMG look at the scratch which would have been on my screen".

But i'm not a believer of them personally, if Apple says it has an oleophobic fingerprint resistant screen then i'd like to feel the benefit of it on my digits thank you very much, rather than through the plastic-ey horribleness which is the screen film.

Now Apple haven't gave an actual reason as to why they aren't selling the protective screens any more, some people think it's to further promote their screen durability claims. And to be honest i don't blame them, i've been running a 3GS since launch day and i haven't got ONE scratch on my screen.

The screens will still be available through other channels so you can still purchase your plastic-ey horribleness from other sources, just not via Apple themselves, whether it be in store or online.

Tesla Coil Performance

The performance took place at SXSW 2010 (South by South West). Which from what i gather is some kind of ~~freak show~~ festival.

I bet his mum told him not to play with electricity when he was younger, well look at him now mum!, look at him now.
Despite looking like the most dangerous thing you could possibly do, i do still want a go.

The End Of The World

A moment ago i thought the world had ended, well i suppose from my perspective it had.

The BBC website went down, yes the BBC!, the BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION stopped broadcasting, albeit for a brief second.

You're probably thinking "Big deal" (yeah i can see you) but major sites rarely go down, which is why i make it my business to point out their failures. If Google ever goes down (again, it hasn't since at least 2008 if i remember correctly) then that really would be the end of the world.

Someone at the BBC obviously has too much time on their hands, so much so that they photoshopped the classic BBC clown to feature the fiery depths of Hell and the number 500.
I'm assuming the 500 means the error code and not the new amount they plan to charge us for the TV licensing, which while we're on the subject is an absolute joke, anyway, i digress.

It seems that in-between me writing this, and me actually posting it they have fixed the problem whatever it was............although its too little too late as i no longer feel like listening to the internet radio.

Fake Ass Gadget: EyeMobile Edition

Now you may be wondering how this is classified as a fake ass gadget, when in fact, its not a gadget at all.

I felt this needed to be included not just because it has a play on names, for example : iPhone = iMobile = Eye Mobile (you can almost see their thought process), but because it looks like an iPhone too!

Now personally i think its almost ingenious as surely when a girl loses her make-up you can shout "There's an app for that", and then she'd probably finish with you. It'd be funny though, and would make a good pub story. Maybe.

Playstation Move To Offer Limited Four Player Function

Before you start planning any Playstation Move launch party's ( i know you like to plan ahead) you may need to bear in mind this little snippet of information in mind.

You won't actually be able to use four full sets of controllers, i.e. the motion wand and the nun-chuck looking thing (lets just call it that for simplicity). The issue is apparently with the PS3's Bluetooth module, as it is only fit to address seven wireless devices at any one time. Now i didn't have to attend Eton College with Prince Harry to know that 2 x 4 = more than 7!

"Four PlayStation Move controllers can connect to a PS3 at one time (or two PlayStation Move Controllers and 2 PlayStation Move sub-controllers)."

So it appears the answer to this probably minor predicament is actually, "tough!".
You would have thought Sony would bump up the specs for the Bluetooth module on the PS3 Slim at least, or do they plan to bring out ANOTHER console which will support all eight peripherals?

It all seems abit silly to me, and i refuse to believe that Sony have really been that short sighted as to over look this problem. I guess the Wii gets away with it because the controllers connect to each other, whereas PS3 Move is all wireless.

Playstation Move

Sony have finally unveiled their motion control add-on for the PS3, Its called Playstation Move.

This is part of Sony's effort to push the "next generation" of gaming, and they will market this product almost like a new console itself.

The motion control is sensed using the Sony Playstation Eye camera and it is meant to be VERY précised with latency around the same as it is from the Dualshock 3 controller.

According to Engadget.com the controllers are very light in fact they are lighter than a wiimote, and they're almost akin to the PS3's Dualshock 3 control, and they believe this is due to the fact it has rechargeable batteries like in the Dualshock 3 and not AA's.

You'll be able to get Move in three ways: in a bundle with a PS3, standalone, and in a starter kit targeted at "under $100" with the PS Eye, a controller, and a game.

You won't be able to get your eager sweaty hands on it until the end of the year, which is a shame as i want it NOW. Why do manufacturers insist on teasing us MONTHS before a product launch? It riles me!

Nexus Scooter Carry-On

Get bored of walking around airports?, i know i do!
Why is my gate always the one furthest away from anything else, so far in fact i have to question if I'm at the same airport!

Well the Nexus Scooter Carry-On won't solve that dilemma but it will at least make it fun!

Imagine whizzing around the airport playing dodge the tourist on this badboy!

The suitcase/bag/carry on/ whatever you want to call it (airport security will more than likely call it illegal) sports two electric 'engines' (i'm sure they mean motor's, and not engines) and runs off four 12v battery's, which will power this badboy for two hours.

Its a shame this thing is only a concept! :-(

OK Go - This Too Shall Pass

This music video from Chicago based artists "Ok Go" features a 3 minute (and fifty three seconds) long Rube Goldberg machine. You know, the type of machine that was in the Honda advert using car parts and which is also in the beginning of that suicide inducing Frosties Kid commercial.

It's pretty cool, and i can only assume it was all taken in one shot, which i hope it was otherwise ~~i won't be very happy~~ they're some bad-ass editing skills.

I like it and you have to watch it, because ~~I'LL BE TESTING YOU ON IT AFTERWARDS!~~ you'll thank me for not only introducing you to new music but for opening your eyes to a new level of awesomeness!

How e-Books Will Look On The iPad

E-books are something that don't appeal to me in the slightest, so when i heard the iPad would support e-books my reaction was something along the lines of "And what". I thought it would just be like reading text on the internet or on a news paper. Oh how wrong i was.

Penguin UK have released a preview of how their e-books will look on the iPad, and i am damn impressed.
They have obviously took the idea of interactivity and ran a mile with it!

It provides some very interesting concepts and a path I'm sure many other publishers will follow, I can see this taking off BIG TIME.

T-Mobile Orange Merger Approved

The Orange and T-Mobile merger has finally been approved by the EU.

The two companies will remain as separate entities in the public eye for the first 18 months starting this spring, but behind closed doors their staff will merge and they will be working under one management.

Eventually the two companies will rebrand themselves to become one entity, although what that company will be called and what direction it will take is still unknown.

This merger will make the whole UK mobile scene far less competitive, which means no crazy price wars on future handsets.........

WTF?: Marvel TV Edition

Marvel have teamed up with Television maker RTC23 (nope i've never heard of them either) to make Marvel character themed televisions.

Now i know ~~nothing at all~~ very little about RTC23 so i can't comment on the quality of their products, so underneath your garish obsession for Marvel you may actually have a decent product, but i can't help but think "WTF?".

The TV's will appear in 22, 32, 42 and 55-inch LCD and 40 and 46-inch LED HDTV versions.

Would you really want a Wolverine telly? i mean really? what would you tell potential dates who come round to errrrrm stay? (assuming you are capable of socially interacting with other human beings).

You'd have to be blinded by your filthy obsession for Marvel characters to consider one of these TV's.

Anyone would think this was a joke but Marvel have confirmed that they have officially licensed the televisions.

I can't help but think you'd grow tired of explaining to people why you have a Incredible Hulk TV......

American City Changes Name To Attract Google

The American city of Topeka in Kansas has changed its name to Google.

The name change comes as part of a bid to attract Google to make the city a test site for its gigabit fibre internet connection.

The city has competition from other American cities such as Grand Rapids, Mich., and Baton Rouge, La.

For gigabit fibre to my house i'd get Google tattoo'd on my FACE! (ok maybe i wouldn't, but i would consider it).

The city's name change is only for one month and its not that strange when you learn that in 1998 the same town changed its name to "ToPikachu" to honour a nationwide kick off of the Pokemon franchise.

Now i don't know whose in charge of this town, but they are clearly mental. Thats why i think we should start a campaign to make them President, they'd do all kinds of crazy stuff!

PS3 Now OK

It is now safe to turn on your PS3 again, after the time related issue over the past few days.

That means its game on for us fat/phat PS3 owners.

Below are some questions you may have and the answers courtesy of the folks over at Joystiq.com:

Q. Is it safe to turn on my PS3 now?

A. You bet! The PlayStation Network is online and fully functional for owners of PS3 Phat models, and games appear to be running problem-free.

Q. Do I have to download a firmware update?

A. Nope. The problem should just fix itself automatically, whether you're online or not.

Q. My Trophy data for [insert game here] is gone! (I know, I know -- that's not a question, but still!)

A. If you lost any Trophy data over the past 24 hours, there may be a way to salvage it. Launch the game for which you're trying to restore Trophies and it should automatically recreate a Trophy data set on your PS3's memory, which you can then sync with the PSN server (just by opening up your Trophy list in the XMB). Our Heavy Rain Trophies had vanished, but this trick brought them back from the ether.

Q. The time and date on my PS3 are wrong. How do I fix this?

A. Under Settings in the XMB, then under the Time/Date settings, you should be able to set your console to automatically sync the time and date via the internet.

It does seem odd that the problem has fixed itself WITHOUT an update, is it because its now 02/03/2010? Will we have the same problem on 28/02/2011?

Either way, it's all ok now, it even says so on the official Playstation blog.

First Windows Phone 7 Hardware Unveiled

Today during the Engadget.com show, Aaron Woodman from Microsoft unveiled the first actual phone running the new Windows Phone 7 Architecture. The phone is an LG slider which is apparently as thin as an iPhone, and packs a 5 MP camera with flash and a headphone jack, details are abit sketchy as its a very early pre-production model, but from what i have seen it looks pretty damn good.

The phone sports six hardware buttons, one for the camera flash, one for power, and one for volume, alongside the obligatory search, back and windows buttons that Microsoft insists appears on every WP7 device.

The phone won't be available until at least Q3 of this year, so you'll have to be patient and perhaps stall getting that iPhone upgrade in June/July.

PS3Gate

Well, well, well, It looks like us Fat PS3 owners are in for a tough week. I didn't notice as i was off elsewhere being awesome and stuff, but last night PSN went down and caused some consoles to get error "8001050F", some consoles to crash games, and some to display corrupted trophy info.

The issue is apparently to do with the way the PS3 handles leap years, so when the clock struck 12 for the 1st of March it all went belly up.

Sony are apparently looking into it, but there doesn't appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel, but then there wouldn't be as I'm a pessimist and the tunnel is always pitch black from my view.

The only good news is that the problem doesn't effect PS3 Slims, only us fatties.

There's alot of conflicting information circling the net right now and some blog sites are telling users NOT to turn their PS3 on, personally i think thats abit extreme but i'd rather be safe than ~~PS3-less~~ sorry.

Titanium Backed iPhone 3GS

The iPhone back you see before you was created by Martin Schrotz, and its made of Titanium. (Its the actual back of the phone not a case).

Not pleased by the plastic provided by Apple, Martin went out of his way to forge a new back for the iPhone out of Titanium Alloy, and i have to take my hat off to him as it looks awesome³.

The Titanium is durable enough to allow RF waves to pass through it, therefore needing no plastic parts.

Now my question is why can't Apple do this? would certainly make the phone more sturdy and 100 times more appealing, and i would probably by 3 of them!!!

*Edit* Gizmodo totally ripped this iPhone to shreds and basically declared it not real due to the ridiculous process it would require to not only forge a piece of Titanium in the shape of the iPhone but for the sheer fact that Martin would have had to INVENT a new type of Titanium to allow RF and wireless signals to pass through it. Either way, it still looks awesome and i want it!.
